In
Memory
John Melum
We
lost a dear friend on
January 21, 2011.
John Melum was born
December 17, 1933 in Red
Lodge, Montana and was
raised in Spokane,
Washington. In
April, 1953, John joined
the United States Air
Force and for the next
twenty years, until
1973, he served his
country abroad, in Korea
and Japan, and later on
native soil on Air Force
bases in the states of
Washington and Alaska
where he enjoyed working
on aircraft.
John married Mary
Burdette on May 6, 1957
after meeting her on an
Air Force base.
They were married
for 53 years and have a
son, John
David. After leaving the
service of his country,
John moved his family to
Rome, New York, and
secured a position as
property manager and
served the company of
CRM Rental Management,
Inc. for the next 26 ½
years.
John and Mary
later moved their family
to Lake City.
Though retired a
second time, he still
could not retire from
service.
John
and Mary actively served
Habitat for Humanity
of Lake City/Columbia
County by helping to
select families for homes,
and supporting those
families through the
process of becoming
homeowners as
co-chairs of the Family
Nurturing Committee.
As board members, they
continued to be in contact
and support families who
became Habitat homeowners
by spending several hours
every month mentoring,
sharing and helping young
families as well as
talking with many
prospects.
John
loved fishing, gardening,
golf and bowling. In
fact, he had a
perfect bowling game (300)
once in Rome, New York.
He was a member of
American Legion Post 57,
VFW Post 2206, and was
affiliated with the Way
Word Ministries where he
was tireless in helping to
maintain their facilities.
John will truly be
missed!

A
Message from your Chairman
I,
too, would like to
thank all the businesses and
individuals who donated
funding, services and
materials for our fourth
home recently completed as
well as all the volunteers
who spent many hours working
to get the the Scippio
family into their new home
by Christmas!
With
our fourth house completed,
it is time to think about
the fifth house. For
it to become a reality,
before we can start
the house, we have to have:
1) at least two
qualified partner families,
2) 80 percent of
construction funding in
place and 3) a construction
chairman. Please pray
for these needs. I
would also like to have more
groups ready to volunteer
for workdays/projects before
starting.
Sheila
and I have registered for
the 2011 National Habitat
for Humanity Affiliate
Conference scheduled for
March 23 - 25. If you
are interested in joining
us, Visit
the national conference
registration site and
register today or see one of
us.
A
special thanks to Judy
Conklin for helping
Sheila and I at First
Presbyterian's Mission Fair
this past Sunday. They
are such a genous
congregation and have been a
tremendous help to our
affiliate.
A
special thanks to First
Federal Bank and Keith
Leibfried for their
generous donation of four
residential lots on 383
Lomond Street so we can help
build more homes for those
in need!

Federal has
extended the "Community
Rewards Program" with
Habitat through June.
Sign up to use a First
Federal Visa Debit Card as a
signature based transaction
and First Federal will
donate $.50 for each
transaction to HFH to reach
a goal of $3,000.
(click
here for "Community
Rewards Program"
enrollment)
Please
sign up for this program (which
will only last for until
June 30) to help us raise
some much needed funds for
our 5th house.
After
reading this disclosure,
please complete the
enrollment form and submit. Where
it asks for an account
number, please enter your
checking account number that
is held with First
Federal Bank of Florida.
Upon receipt we will
activate your enrollment. If
you know or hear of anyone
that is interested in being
part of this community
program, or have any
questions about this
program, please contact Sally
Huggins at 755-0600, ext

Thanks
for all you're doing. Please

neighbor and ask them to get
involved in this worthwhile
organization

for Humanity doesn't just
build affordable housing for
those in need; we build
homes,...home where dreams
are realized and seeds of
optimism are planted.
Our local community is
striving to do our part for
our partner families.

Cars
for Homes
Here's
your chance to do
"Ultimate Spring
Cleaning" and benefit
Lake City/Columbia County
Habitat for Humanity at
the same time. Forget the
house - look in your
garage and yard (and your
neighbors' yards) for the
treasures.
Habitat
for Humanity's Cars for
HomesTM
is
a national program that
recycles used cars,
trucks, boats, RVs,
motorcycles, construction
equipment or other
vehicles to raise funds
for HFH home construction.
Running or not, your old
treasures can be put to
good use through this
program.
Donors
simply call the Cars for
HomesTM
number
(877)277-HFHI (4344) or
visit www.carsforhomes.org
to donate vehicles.
Accepted vehicles are sold
through wholesale
auctions, salvage yards,
and automotive recyclers.
Donors are sent an
acknowledgement from HFHI
and all the forms required
by the IRS regulations.
Net proceeds and donor
contact information
generated by the donations
are disbursed to HFH
affiliates, based on the
zip code of the donor.
These are unrestricted
funds to help build homes
in partnership with local
families in need of decent
affordable shelter.

Do
You Know Anyone Interested
in Owning a Habitat Home?
We are looking for families
who are interested in
becoming owners of Habitat
homes in the Lake
City/Columbia County area.
Successful candidates for
Habitat homes need to be
residents of Columbia County
and satisfy three criteria:
1) a need for Habitat
housing, 2) an ability
to repay a no-interest
mortgage, and 3) a
willingness to partner with
Habitat.
